On the afternoon of August 12, 2026, nearly 300 teachers and students from the 8th China Northern Hope‑Star Mathematics Summer Camp visited Xi’an Jiaotong University for a distinctive immersive research‑learning activity. Hosted by Xi’an Jiaotong University Affiliated High School (Qujiang Campus) and co‑organized by the
State Key Laboratory of Electrical Insulation and Power Equipment, this campus visit aimed to help middle‑school students at a critical stage of theoretical learning gain intuitive understanding linking basic disciplines to major national strategic needs through campus cultural tours and in‑depth experiences in the State Key Laboratory.
To ensure an in‑depth experience, the nearly 300 teachers and students were divided into four groups. They respectively toured the
State Key Laboratory of Electrical Insulation and Power Equipment, the State Key Laboratory for Mechanical Behavior of Materials, the Westward Migration Museum and the Qinqiang Opera Museum, embarking on an exploration journey covering cutting‑edge science‑and‑technology as well as humanistic spirits.
This research‑learning activity serves as a vivid practice of the education philosophy for connecting secondary and higher education. Opening State Key Laboratories to teenagers bears far‑reaching significance. It not only enables young people to get early access to front‑line platforms for national strategic demands, but also builds a tangible bridge between basic education and higher education. Participants gained more than expanded knowledge; they also found their interest orientation and developed an initial sense of scientific mission. Going forward, the laboratory will continue such collaborative educational practices to cultivate more high‑caliber innovative talents with lofty aspirations for building a powerful country in science and technology.
